Easter 2013 - Langvasstua and Låktatjåkka

Impressions from our Easter holiday together with Dutch friends. Lots of snow, occasional sun, good food and nice huts, beautiful scenery, and a double birthday celebration.

Een indruk van onze paasvakantie samen met Nederlandse vrienden. Veel sneeuw, af en toe zon, lekker eten en mooie hutten, prachtige natuur, en een dubbele verjaardag.

On our way to Øverbygd IL Lagshytte where friendly locals serve waffles every weekend during the ski season. A beautiful 10 km round trip.

It took us a while to dig out enough space to park 2 cars off the road near Langvasstua.

Much of the route between Bjørkliden and Låktatjåkka is quite flat, but there were a few slopes with nice fresh powder to enjoy some turns.

Snow, snow and more snow

This is how we found our house last Friday evening, when we came back from a week holiday. With 60 cm of fresh snow in the driveway, some snow clearing was needed before we could park the car in the garage. It is now snowing again and the weather forecast predicts more snow for the whole week. The current official snow depth in Tromsø is 141 cm.

Dit is hoe we ons huis aantroffen afgelopen vrijdagavond, toen we terug kwamen van een weekje vakantie. Met 60 cm verse sneeuw in de oprit moest er eerst sneeuw geruimd worden voordat we onze auto in de garage konden parkeren. Het sneeuwt nu weer en de weersverwachting voorspelt meer sneeuw voor de hele komende week. De officiële sneeuwhoogte in Tromsø is vandaag 141 cm.

Ice 'art' and northern lights

A few photos from the last weeks. Some from a short walk along the coast west of Tromsø, where there was little snow, but some interesting ice features. And a few attempts at photographing northern lights. These were only very quiet displays; there was a much more spectacular display earlier this week with a beautiful corona, but, unfortunately, I didn't have my camera ready. It has now finally started to snow again with snowstorms coming and going in the last few days.

Een paar fotos van de afgelopen weken. Een aantal van een korte wandeling langs de kust ten westen van Tromsø: er lag hier maar weinig sneeuw, maar we vonden wel interessante ijsformaties. En een paar pogingen om het noorderlicht te fotograferen. Dit waren erg kalme voorstellingen; een paar dagen geleden was het noorderlicht erg actief en spectaculair met prachtige coronas, maar toen had ik helaas mijn fototoestel niet klaar. Het is nu eindelijk weer gaan sneeuwen; we hebben de afgelopen dagen verschillende sneeuwstormen gehad en er worden er meer verwacht.

There were quite a few overflows (it had rained while the ground was still frozen), some with interesting icicles.

Back in Tromsø - beautiful weather for skiing

After a pleasant break in Italy we are now back in the snow in Tromsø. February has so far been excellent with lots of cold and clear weather, although we could use some fresh snow as it is getting rather windblown and hard. The weather will change later this week, but the metereological office can't quite make up their mind if it is going to snow or rain. Hopefully it will be snow, otherwise we will get an icy mess again. Below some snow photos from the last week.

Na een prettige vakantie in Italië zijn we nu weer thuis in de sneeuw in Tromsø. Februari is tot nu toe prachtig geweest met veel mooi weer. We zouden wel wat verse sneeuw kunnen gebruiken, want de sneeuw begint aardig hard en verwaaid te worden. Het weer gaat eind van de week veranderen, maar de meteorologen zijn er nog niet helemaal uit of het gaat sneeuwen of regenen. Hopelijk wordt het sneeuw anders wordt het hier weer een ijsbaan.
