Trans Siberian 2: Listvyanka-Irkutsk

A short 3-day break from the train ride to visit the Baikal lake and Irkutsk. We spent 2 sunny and warm days in and around the village Listvyanka on the beautiful Baikal lake. The village itself is rather touristy, but it is nice to get out on the lake on a boat trip and visit the old Trans Siberian railway track, to go for a walk in the forested hills, and to swim in the lake. And the smoked omul, the local fish, is very good.

Een korte 3-daagse onderbreking van de treinreis om het Baikalmeer en Irkutsk te bezoeken. We hadden 2 warme zonnige dagen in het dorpje Listvyanka aan het Baikalmeer. Het dorp zelf is nogal toeristisch, maar een boottocht over het meer met een wandeling langs  het oude traject van de trans Siberie trein, en een wandeling in de beboste heuvels rond het meer waren erg mooi. Zwemmen in het meer was heerlijk koel na een warme dag en de gerookte vis Omul is erg lekker.

We also had a rather wet afternoon in the city of Irkutsk, before getting back on the train. Here there are lots of impressive buildings and churches, interesting statues, and still quite a few of the old wooden houses, some (partially) restored, others pretty much falling down.

We hadden ook een nogal regenachtige halve dag in Irkutsk. Irkutsk heeft heel wat indrukwekkende gebouwen en kerken, grappige beelden en ook nog verschillende oude houten huizen, sommige mooi gerestaureerd, andere in minder goede staat.
